With all this rain are you protected against fungus? First and foremost maintaining a healthy, vigorously growing lawn is the best way to prevent a severe disease outbreak in turf grass. For a disease to occur, all elements must be present- pathogen; environment and host (turf grass). Even if a disease-causing pathogen is present, infection won’t occur unless the environment (i.e., temperature, quantity of water, etc.) is conducive to disease development and susceptible (i.e., weak, stressed, breaking dormancy, etc.) grass is available. It seems like the month of May weather conditions have been favorable for the outbreak of disease. With this in mind I would recommend for homeowners to apply a fungicide at the labeled rate as soon as possible. I would suggest if you have centipedegrass to apply Cleary’s 3336 this month followed by an application of Heritage in June.
